A Student Reaching Students

When I met Ventura, he was covered in sweat.  I asked him why and he told me he'd walked the 2.5 miles from his dormitory at Michigan State University.  He walked to church in summer.  "Oh...well can I give you ride home?"

On the way home I found out he walked from campus after completing a 17 hour trip from Mozambique.  As soon as he hit the ground, the first thing he did was look for a church to attend.  "Wow.  Can I take you to lunch to welcome you to East Lansing?"

At lunch I found out Ventura was a Hubert H. Humphrey Fellow at Michigan State University.  The  Fellowship brings accomplished mid-career professionals from developing countries to the United States for a year of study and related professional experiences.  "Nice!  Would you like a church home while you're here?"

We started sending a van to Michigan State University to pick him up for church.  Pretty soon, we were picking up Ventura and his friends.  He has invited scholars from three continents into bible studies, prayer meetings and fellowship events.  They've heard him share his testimony, pray and read scripture.

Ventura completed a prayer walk with me and his fellow Spartans.  The Holy Spirit is using a team of church volunteers and staffers to reach students for Jesus.  Vetura is a student reaching students.

The University Baptist Church family is delighted to see students of the world know, worship and grow (KWaG) as a disciple of Jesus Christ.

Alex Pickens III serves as the Senior Pastor of University Baptist Church in East Lansing, MI.  He tends a vision to see all peoples of the world know, worship and grow (KWaG) as disciples of Jesus Christ.  Alex and Naudia live with their two children near the campus of Michigan State University.
